That 70's Glow
If you look at my iTunes playlists, you quickly learn I have an affinity for Barry White, Stevie Wonder, The Bee Gees, Chicago, and The Isley Brothers, to name a few. Yes, this gal loves her 70s music, a good thing because the 70s is back, baby!
Step foot into any clothing store, pick up a fashion magazine or look at any major fashion blog, and you will see the 70s is dominating fall and winter fashion. This is a trend I can easily embrace; I already have the soundtrack! But how can you spin this look with a 2015 freshness and not end up like a cliche that stepped out of a Charlie's Angels episode (the orginal, natch)? Think individual pieces. Rather than wear every 70s trend at once, combine one or two of the following elements that are reminiscent of the decade:
Clothing
- Bell-bottom pants, especially in denim
- Fitted turtle-neck sweater
- A-line skirt
- Tie-neck blouse, peasant blouse
Color
- Brown (almost any shade)
- Mustard
- Burgundy
Fabric/Details
- Suede
- Fringe
- Dark denim
- Corduroy
Today we are hanging out in sunny Coney Island, channeling a bit of that California 70s boho glow with a tie-neck peasant blouse and a denim A-line skirt. While this is not my usual black-on-black NY standard, I must admit, this outfit does have me feeling rather...groovy.
