Weekend Wear
Brrrrrr! It’s officially sweater season, and what's better than slipping on a snuggly layer when going casual on the weekend to run
errands and generally catch up on life? For this
particular Sunday, I had a family brunch and a quick trip to an apple orchard
for the best cider donuts. To get me through most of the day's activities, I threw on a fluffy, cashmere cable knit sweater over a pair of
slouchy shorts, argyle tights and my favorite, vintage knee-high boots I picked
up in Paris a few years ago. My weekend get-up was warm, comfortable but not schleppy.
This year chunky cable-knit sweaters reign supreme. In fact, the chunkier
the better. From cable knit turtle necks and cowl necks, to cardigans and dresses,
cable knit is everywhere for you to throw over anything from jeans to skirts. With leather so big this season, I love combining
leather with soft, feminine pieces, such as cashmere, mixing classic and
edge for a wonderful aesthetic contrast. However, if you're like me and are on a shopping budget, consider coated denim in place of leather. Not only does coated denim cost a lot less, it looks like leather with out actually trying to (poorly) imitate leather.
And can we just talk about the Alice & Olivia argyle tights I’m currently obsessing over? I love how these tights let me extend the wearability of my dresses, skirts, and shorts as the temperature dips. Going one step further, argyle tights inject a little zazzle to an otherwise simple ensemble. Folks have been rocking this diamond-like pattern for decades, proving that good things never really do go out of style. However, when it comes to patterned leg wear, pair them with a knee- or thigh-high boots and keep the rest of your outfit relatively pattern-free to prevent the argyle from getting a little too much. In this case, there can certainly be too much of a good thing.
What do you have planned this weekend? What are your go-to pair of shoes/pants/tops that you reach for when you’re bumming around on the weekends?
