Cropping Up
I was twenty years old the last time I wore a crop top. If I only knew then what I know now, i.e. aging and love handles are best friends, I would have worn. the. sh*t. out of that crop top. Oh well, at least I have one, old black and white photo to prove I'd been there, done that and had narry a care about calories, carbs and gluten at some point in my life.
So at this age, I think it's a little crazy I'm embracing the crop top. Mind you, not all crop tops are the same, and some are definitely more aggressive than others. The crop tops coming out for Spring 2014 come short or long, fitted or loose and even boxy, so there are plenty of choices to find one that works for you.
If you have a flat stomach or are graced with abs, embrace this trend! For the rest of you who would like to incorporate this look but don't know how, I suggest easing into it. Try a longer, looser crop top, and pair it with a high-waisted bottom. Today I'm sporting a boxier version from Alice & Olivia in fresh black and white stripes with my boyfriend jeans. This top would also pair well with a high-waisted pencil skirt or a pleated ankle-length trouser.
See? Not so bad, right?
I understand the crop top is not for everyone. However, I'm giving it a chance. Now excuse me while I down this peanut butter banana smoothie before I head to Zumba and follow it up with a delicious kale salad dinner. By the way, and if you'd like any of these easy recipes, let me know. Happy to share!
